Camel City first opened in March 2002, and had a maximum seating capacity of 36, lending itself to an almost constant wait for a seat. There certainly was a lot of “character” to the “old” Camel City. Praise for the food abounded (thankfully it hasn’t ceased) and the wine flowed freely from the wine bar. The West End of Winston-Salem was very good to Camel City Café and we thank our friends and neighbors for our time at our original location.
Camel City Café moved into the current space in the Stevens Center of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in August of 2005. We are conveniently located at the corner of Fourth and Marshall, aka “Restaurant Row”, within walking distance to many of the areas largest businesses, including the MC Benton Convention Center, the Marriot and Embassy Suites as well as the Downtown Arts District. Parking has become easier as we are half way down the block from the parking deck and parking on the street is free from the time we open at 5pm.We are also easily accessed from the GMAC parking lot after 5 pm. Our current home includes 2 separate dining rooms, an outside patio, a banquet facility on the 10th floor of the building and a full service bar, “The Oasis.” Since we are located in a UNCSA building, we are a smoke free restaurant.
Our wine list is extensive and always available for purchase even when you aren’t able to take the time for a sit down dinner. You can call us 336.734.1797 to make purchases on the fly or you can contact us at camelcitycafe@triadbiz.rr.com. If you would like for us to order a seasonal favorite for you the key is to buy in bulk. We are able to get a better price and are able to pass along the savings to you when orders are larger. We enjoy going that extra mile of vineyard to track down a hard to find favorite that you have acquired a taste for and are having a hard time finding. We do our best to under price chain wine outlets and want you to keep us in mind when ordering! And please feel free to check out John’s consulting web page at www.camelcityconsulting.com.
Our Southern Heritage lends itself to striving for perfection but not making you feel stuffy or uneasy. Attire is generally casual, although some guests do like to dress up. Learning your name, knowing your favorite dishes, recommending the perfect wine to accompany your meal are all examples of things we like to do. So although we’ve expanded our size, our heart is still in the same place. That’s what being a Southern restaurant is all about: Southern Taste ~ Southern Style.
